Louisiana Governor Appoints Michael A. Thomas Chair of Port of New Orleans Board of Commissioners


Gov. Jeff Landry recently appointed Michael A. Thomas as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) for a five-year term. With the alignment of Port NOLA and the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB), Thomas will also serve as Chairman of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Commission.


Thomas succeeds Joseph F. Toomy, whose most recent five-year term began on August 16, 2019, and officially concluded on August 15, 2024.

Corn Belt Ports and Louisiana Ports Sign Cooperative Endeavor Agreement


In a landmark move to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the Mississippi River’s vital agricultural and industrial trade routes, the Upper and Lower Mississippi River ports signed their first-ever Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) at the National Waterways Conference's annual meeting in September.


This historic partnership is poised to drive significant advancements in cooperation efforts toward business development, infrastructure investment, and federal support for port operations along America’s Marine Highways 35 and 55.

Port of New Orleans and New Orleans Public Belt quickly resumed operations following Hurricane Francine


The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) and the New Orleans Public Belt (NOPB) quickly resumed operations following Hurricane Francine.Preliminary damage assessments showed no significant damage to port facilities or infrastructure.

Check out the drone video to the left that shows container and breakbulk vessels in port. From the video, you get a view of some of our marine capabilities including: 3 container berths, 9 container cranes, 6 dedicated wharves for breakbulk and project cargo, as well as direct discharge to barge capabilities.
