Tropical Weather UpdateOctober 27, 2020
Storm preparations are underway for Tropical Storm Zeta. The National Weather Service is still forecasting the storm to become a Category 1 Hurricane. It appears the storm may be speeding up and effects could begin earlier than initially forecast. Wave heights off Southwest Pass are expected to be 15-20 feet. This will be a very fast-moving storm and impacts should only last 8-10 hours. The New Orleans area is forecast to have 40-50 mph sustained winds with higher gusts. We will continue provide daily updates on our operating status.
Current Operational Update (10/27/2020)
We will remain OPEN throughout the day today; we are making storm preparations throughout the rest of the day.
All Kearney Companies, Inc. warehouses and yard operations are planned to beCLOSED on Wednesday October 28th. We hope to be open Thursday AM, with normal business hours; however, we will advise on this once we have an assessment of our capabilities after the storm has passed. Impacts to power and localized flooding are the main areas of concern.
The NOPB Rail operations in and out of New cease operations Wednesday early AM, October 28h, rail operations will be suspended between the NOPB and the Class 1 carriers like BNSF, CSX, CN, KCS, NS and UP due to flood gate closures.
Terminal Operations: New Orleans Terminal and Ports America for containerized operations will be CLOSED tomorrow Wednesday, October 28, 2020.
Empire, Coastal Cargo, Gulf Stream and Ports America for breakbulk operations will beCLOSED tomorrow Wednesday, October 28, 2020.
Vessel Operations: Tuesday, October 27, 2020: The Coast Guard has set Port condition to X-RAY OPEN to all commercial traffic.
Wednesday, October 28, 2020: The Coast Guard is expected set Port condition to ZULU RESTRICTED vessel movements.
