August 23, 2020 (12:30 PM)
Dear valued customer:
At this time, we would like to make sure you are aware of the potential impacts of Hurricane force winds, storm surge, and heavy rains with flooding in the Port of New Orleans area as a result two approaching weather systems. Due to the latest Hurricane forecast for Hurricane Marco and soon to be Hurricane Laura, we are suspending our New Orleans, LA operations effective immediately. We will remain closed until it is safe to reopen. We will be following our normal hurricane preparation procedures and working to secure all buildings, equipment, and personal to ensure everyone’s safety. You can find out the latest at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ which is updated as soon as new information is available.
All Kearney Companies, Inc. warehouse and yard operations are closed until further notice. All buildings and terminals have been secured and storm preparations are being completed at this time. We expect the weather to deteriorate tonight with tropical force winds and rain overnight and all day tomorrow (Monday, 8-24).
Rail operations in and out of New Orleans are now suspended between the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) and the Class 1 carriers like BNSF, CSX, CN, KCS, NS and UP.
All railcars that we have on our property are now pulled and relocated to yards that are behind the flood protection levee system.
The Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal at The Port of New Orleans is closed until further notice. If you have bookings with a cut off next week you will want to touch base with your carriers to see what their instructions are with regard to the vessel cut offs.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure to advise by email to your customers service representative. We appreciate your business and hope that this system will pass without any major impact to our operations.
